We are about 200m away from the idyllic Weston Beach, where a small catamaran (pictured right) can be hired for hourly trips, with an islander named Colin, for fishing and/or sailing.
There is also a local fish market.
In the close vicinity, there is John Moore’s Bar, a local rumshack, reputed to be the best on the island. Sometimes they cook and sell locally-caught fish. Opposite is another bar which offers the best pork chops on the island on Fridays only.
If fishing is more your thing, you’re spoilt for choice.
You can go trolling on a 42ft Sports Fisherman, equipped with modern electronic navigational equipment, custom built fishing rods and Pen International gold reels, fishing for Marlin, Tuna, Sailfish, Wahoo or Dorado .
Alternatively, go out for the day with a local fisherman (Vernon) in his boat and catch Tuna on a traditional handline. I can promise, catching a 15lb Tuna this way beats anything AND you get to keep the fish!
Just 1km south of the apartment on ‘Alleynes Bay’, you can swim with turtles which grow up to 4ft in diameter.
Magical and highly recommended!
One of the most anticipated golfing events on the island, the Sir Garfield Sobers Festival of Golf is a 4-day, stroke play tournament, usually held in April and hosted by the legendary cricketer himself.
This is a wonderful way to get to play the Barbados Golf Club, Sandy Lane Country Club, Royal Westmoreland and the Apes Hill Club.
For an afternoon of fun and excitement, join the sport of kings at the Garrison Savannah!
It is a day for all the family. Street food, vendors, parades, picnics and mingling are as important to many as the races and the bets. The main event of the Barbados horse racing season is the Sandy Lane Gold Cup (formerly the Cockspur Gold Cup), which attracts entrants from across the Caribbean and jockeys from the United Kingdom and Canada.
Next door is the more rustic Ju-Jus, a lovely beach bar and grill. They also celebrate significant dates (such as Bob Marley’s birthday) with a barbecue, not to be missed.
Experience one of the most pleasurable days of your holiday!
